Uber’s New Family Profile Feature Brings Convenience
Uber is soon adding the Family Profile feature – a new setting to allow family members to use the convenience of Uber services. Parents do not have to worry anymore about their children not being able to find a ride or afford it at any time of the day or night.

By adding your children or other family members to your Family Profile, you can now make sure that they use the credit card in your profile as payment. Before, you would possibly have had to add your credit card information to each of the phones for your family members if you wanted them to pay using one method. But with this new integration, the process has become a lot easier. This feature will allow you to add 10 riders to the Family Profile, all riders sharing the same payment method.

Uber outlined the sets to set up the Family Profile feature in their blog post:

“For the Family Profile organizer:
Make sure you have the latest version of the Uber app.

Go to Menu and choose Settings.
Scroll down to “Add a Family Profile” and select the contacts you would like to add.

As soon as the Family Profile rider accepts the invitation, they can begin requesting rides from their own phone using the Family Profile as their payment method.

The cost of the trip will automatically be billed to the Family Profile and the organizer will receive a receipt for every ride.

For the Family Profile rider:
Open the email invitation to Family Profiles and accept.

The first time you use the ride make sure you’re using the latest version of the app and choose the Family Profile as your default payment method.

Once selected, request a ride as you normally would and get moving!”

Restrictions – Family Profile feature

There are some restrictions, however. The users must be at least 18 years of age and have existing Uber accounts. The Family profile isn’t restricted to just children, though; you may add siblings, grandparents, or any other family members. In fact, there isn’t a way for Uber to verify the relationships, so, should you choose to, you can add close friends to the Family Profile as well.

Currently, Family Profile feature is scheduled to launch in Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix only, but other cities will hopefully benefit from this in the near future.
